Girls Teams -A discussion.

I’ve been talking to a few parents about the possibility of forming a girls team in 2011, possibly an Under 14s.

Girls football lends itself better to the prospect of girls playing up a year, so you will often find 13 year-olds playing in an U14 team, so girls who presently play U12 might well be able to play U14 in 2011.

Getting a project like this off the ground will NOT, however, be contingent on Rochedale Rovers’ willingness to push the barrow, girls teams are not formed by clubs, they are formed by determined and willing parents who want to see their girls play against other girls rather than boys, who are (by that age) starting to get bigger, stronger, hairier and smellier.

If there are enough parents willing to see it happen, a girls team is very possible, but like all other teams it will need a coach, manager and backing from parents. I’m talking to a couple of club members who are willing to canvass schools in the off-season to bring more girl players on board.

Disadvantages: One is that the girls comp is cross-river. If we were to nominate Div 3 for instance, you might find yourself playing nearby Holland Park one week, but Albany Creek the next, so be prepared to travel a little further than you’re used to. Having said that most other sports do have a large travelling commitment too.
